WHo is Catchy Coaching?

Hello there!

I’m Adam, aka Catchy. It’s a long story as to where I got my nickname, but if you start your fitness journey with me, you will no doubt find out why.

My story.

I started out working life in Education for the best part of 12 years before moving into Learning and Development in the corporate world of insurance. At this stage in my life, I then moved into health and wellbeing coaching, then finally into the world of personal training and online fitness coaching.

Boring bit out the way, I will now explain what took me on that journey.

Like many people, I struggled with weight and body image for a large portion of my life. It wasn't till later in life that I made a change and focused on my health and fitness.

First port of call was aged 28. It was approaching the new year of 2013, where a friend was getting married on New Years Eve. The day before the wedding, I tried on my suit. It was already a pretty big suit... but did it fit... did it heck. I was mortified. I stepped on the scales for the first time in a long time. 120 kilos. I made myself a promise that come the new year, I would start in the gym, eat better, be better.

And I did! I dropped a significant amount of weight. I got in fairly decent shape. How did I do it? Well, there was the issue. I didn't really know how. I just stopped eating takeaways, and went to the gym 10 times a week. Yes. 10. Turns out, if you eat nothing but eggs and sprouts on a morning, chicken and broccoli at lunch, and steak and eggs on an evening and combine that with 5am one hour cardio sessions in the morning, and weight sessions in the evening, you can get in pretty decent shape. Was this healthy and sustainable? Well... I will get to that.

Fast forward 18 months. Still hitting the gym 10 times a week, but the diet has started to fall into old habits. Junk food and binging has become the norm, but fat gain is minimal because I am so active, in fact, without realising, I'm bulking. I'm getting stronger and stronger!

Now, this is back in a time before fitness influencers were everywhere, and guidance on cutting, maintaining, bulking, healthy fat loss and calorie deficits were harder to find or behind a paywall. I didn't know why what I had been doing was working, but it had. I was just applying the 'oh move more and eat less' principle to losing weight. I didn't have a real gym plan or workout routine. I just knew I needed to do exercises (probably with terrible form back then too) looking back, I was on a 'Bro Split' without realising. But I was staying in decent shape, so all was good. (in my head at least)

I have just turned 30 at this stage then one day... my lower back goes pop. The gym stops. The food stays the same. The weight piles back on, this time though, I add another 10 kilos to my top weight. In this time I become a busy dad, with less time to work on myself, and more and more comfort food. I try to lose weight by crash dieting, going hell to leather at the gym for a week or two before giving in and binging on a MacDonalds breakfast, feel guilty as sin for doing so, and comfort eating further.

Come the end of the pandemic, I'm a hefty 132kg. XXXL t shirts and 46 inch trousers. My Daughter starts school and comes home September of 2022 and explains her teacher asked them all to describe what animal she is like, curiously, I ask her what animal daddy would be. The brutality of her reply lives with me to this day

'A big. fat. gorilla. Or maybe Daddy Pig.'

38 years of age. I decide it is time to make a change again. But this time, I research well. I get advice. I get guidance. I speak to coaches and fitness gurus.

I look into macros. Calorie deficits. Push, Pull, Leg splits. Upper Lower splits. I look at my work diary and my home commitments and look at where I have to sacrifice time to make the gym work, and after 2 years, I hit my lowest weight and body fat, and have a physique that I am actually half happy with.

What I basically do, is what I should have done 10 years prior. I make lifestyle changes that can be sustained long term.

At this point, I realise that I can combine my love of coaching and training people at work, with my new found love for fitness and health. And here we are today, qualified fitness instructor and personal trainer, an experience health and wellbeing coach with expertise in behaviour and routine change.

Why tell you all this?

Well, basically it is so I can tell you - I understand. I have been where you are. I know how difficult the process can be, especially if you have tried and failed. If you lead a busy life and time is at a premium. If you have family commitments. I don't want you to waste 10 years like I did because I did it all by trial and error.

If you want a coach who gets that whatever changes you want to make, have to fit around your life, I can help with that. SO if your 'Daddy Pig' moment has just happened.

Message me today, and make that change.
